Part of a busy road in Erdington which has been closed for four weeks for vital roadworks will now not reopen until next week.

A section of Court Lane, which has been shut off since August 14 for the Severn Trent Water pipe renewal work, was scheduled to reopen by the start of this week.

But, due to "unforeseen ground conditions", the completion date for the work has been put back until September 20.

The road will remain closed to through traffic between its junctions with Hawthorn Brook Way and Guthrum Close. The closure is being enforced while Severn Trent Water upgrades sewer pipes in the area, in conjunction with North Midland Construction (NMCNomenca).

Severn Trent is carrying out the work "to help protect against the risk of flooding from the public sewer during periods of heavy rainfall on Court Lane and around the New Oscott Retirement Village".

In a statement on its website, Severn Trent said: "Works on Court Lane are still ongoing and we're currently laying the 375mm concrete pipes. There have been some unforeseen ground conditions which have impacted on progress.

"Thank you for your patience during this time."
