Supporters of Great Barr will get a chance to view plans for the historic Great Barr Hall today (Saturday, February 1).

They will get their say on the development at a separate information event, in which Tom Watson MP will speak, organised by local campaigners.

The proposal is for 57 houses for enabling development to be built to pay for the restoration of historic gardens and the restoration of the Hall and turn it into a hotel from which the revenue will be used for the long-term maintenance of the gardens, lakes and parkland.

Bob Winkle, Chair of Beacon Action Group, said: “We are hosting an information session for local residents on Saturday, February 1, from 10.30am-12.30pm at Great Barr Memorial Hall.

“The idea of this event is to interpret the impact of the proposed plans on the Sandwell and Walsall residents adjacent to Chapel Lane and the surrounding areas and offer support and advice to residents who may wish to object to any elements of the plans.”

Two further events have been arranged - one at Great Barr Memorial Hall, Chapel Lane on Thursday, February 6 from 2-8.30pm and another at the Collingwood Centre, Collingwood Drive, Pheasey on Monday, February 10 from 2-8.30pm.

“This is the most comprehensive application we’ve seen for the site. The owners have worked with planners, English Heritage, local specialists and undertaken some limited consultation,” Cllr Andrew said.

“There are many unanswered questions and we are holding a full consultation exhibition with all the plans of the houses, the hall and the management of the woodland and gardens.”I would encourage as many people as possible to attend.”
