PAGET Rangers boss Jason Lanns admitted his side's success in lifting the Les James Challenge Cup was the icing on the cake after a memorable campaign.

The Bears secured a 2-1 win over Redditch at Walsall FC to complete a league and cup double, having won promotion to Midland League One a fortnight ago.

A delighted Lanns said: "We are all over the moon to be honest.

"Our main aim this season was to achieve promotion, which we managed to do.

"For us to be able to cap it all off with the cup as well makes it even better. It's a fantastic feeling."

Paget had to come from behind to secure the cup and Lanns praised his team for the way they responded.

"The one thing we didn't do was panic," he said. "We know that we have got goals in us.

"In that first half, we fell behind because we got caught on the break but we played okay.

"In the second half, we took it on even more and they didn't get a kick to be fair.

"Dean Morris has got us back into the game from a free-kick and to then score in the 89th minute was brilliant."

The winner came from top scorer Danny Carter and Lanns admitted his star player hadn't even been on top of his game.

"It was probably the worst game he has played all season!" said Lanns. "Everything was bouncing off him.

"There was even a point when I thought 'should we take him off?' But, let's face it, he has scored 43 goals this season and you can't really afford to. He is the kind of player who can score a goal out of nothing and he's ended up winning us the cup."

Lanns added: "I am just really pleased for all involved at the club - players, fans and staff. I'm also grateful for the well wishes we have received from other clubs. It means a lot.

"It has been a really fantastic season."
