A family festival and popular car boot sale were thrown into doubt after a group of travellers invaded an Erdington park.

The group descended on the land inside Witton Lakes on Wednesday, between Perry Common Road and Gipsy Lane, reports the Sutton Coldfield Observer.

The arrival threw the upcoming Wyrley Festival of Fun into doubt, with hundreds expected to attend the two-day festival this weekend.

Photos of travellers on Witton Lakes were uploaded last night as local residents looked to spread the word ahead of the two-day bash.

The group moved off the land overnight, it has emerged, after Birmingham City Council were notified.

Delighted organisers revealed they were happy the situation had reached its conclusion.

Linda Hines, on behalf of Witton Lodge Community Association, said: "They arrived on Tuesday and moved on overnight.

"I can't thank the council's agency workers enough for helping out with this.

"They were gone within 24 hours so it's business as usual with regards to the festival.

"We're looking forward to a great turnout on Saturday."

The Wyrley Festival of Fun runs from 12pm-3pm on Saturday, September 9.

There will be a host of activities at Witton lakes and the Velvet Community Orchard.
